Description: Description of complaint: i found out 2 weeks ago the condo i rent has aluminum wiring from 1975. most of the fixtures, switches, etc. look to be original from construction. there was a short and burning in a copper/aluminum connection in a junction box two weeks ago, and my landlord sent a handyman to investigate. he said the aluminum wire had melted, for some reason, and he disconnected the two wires and said he capped them off, and that the problem was fixed. i've looked at the wire/screw connections in my outlets and light switches and found a number that seem problematic (http://www.flickr.com/photos/96566187@n03/), but the landlord refuses to fix them or to even have a licensed electrician check them to make sure they're safe. about 1/4 the condo was renovated and has copper wiring, but there is also aluminum wiring within those circuits. she has gone as far as telling me to move out because she is not going to put anymore money into the house. also, there is a roof leak upstairs that has been going on for a couple months, and the water leaks into a light fixture (alum. wiring) and parts of the ceiling are falling in. complainant name: sarah junke phone: 941-726-2584 email me a confirmation copy of this complaint: yes for an email copy of input, please enter email here: [email protected]
