Description: Str12-06199 please see attached letter. to whom it may concern: please be advised that a few months ago i had hail damage on the roof of my home, as did several of my neighbors. i had an insurance adjuster come and verify that the damage was there. one of the roofers working on a neighbor's new roof came over and asked me if i would like a bid on replacing mine. he gave me a bid and i accepted it. i was under the impression that he was the contractor replacing the roof on the neighbor's home. turns out he was just one of the workers. he told me he was a licensed contractor and since i saw him working on the roof next door, i believed him. he tore off my old shingles and was about 2/3s done replacing with new shingles when an official from the city came by. the official told him he was supposed to have a permit. i had no knowledge of any rules regarding this, and trusted that he was a licensed contractor and knew the rules. his name is greg bennett, i believe. at any rate, he went and secured a permit on monday after the official was here over the weekend. i received a damage check from my insurance company, and signed it over to mr. bennett. i had no knowledge of anything needing to be turned in from me. after my roof was completed and mr. bennett was gone, i discovered from my neighbor that he was not the contractor that did their roof, but an employee of their contractor. i have been unemployed for 1+ years, until securing a part time job about 5 weeks ago. i do not have an extra $215.00 to pay the city of indianapolis. i ask that you please waive this fee. i am signing the completion form you sent me, as the roof is completed. however, i am agreeing that the new roof is complete. i did not obtain the permit, nor am i an employee of the person who did. thank you for your assistance in this matter.
