Description: Pre2010 5912 n waterfront dr the existing gas dock float and two transient moorage floats at metro parks tacoma's boat house pier at point defiance in tacoma, washington were damaged in a severe storm event in january 2010. the proposed project is to replace damaged floats that were in service for over 20 years with new, similar floats. the new floats will be no larger than the damaged floats, and will be constructed using environmentally friendly material. the gas dock is nominally 20 ft x 50 ft, and the two transient floats are nominally 9 ft x 75 ft. freeboard will be approximately 18 inches. the gas dock float piling are steel and will be re-used, although they will be modified above the sediment line to allow the float to attach to the piling in a different manner than the damaged float. the two transient moorage float piling are creosote treated wood and will be pulled and replaced with steel piles. the replacement floats will be constructed of welded high-density polyethylene (hdpe) structural element and encapsulated foam, fiberglass stringers and above water structural members, stainless steel fasteners, and fiberglass grating for decking. decking will be 100 percent grating with at last 60 percent open area.
