Janet Waldeck - 2018 Aug 03
We strongly recommend that you NOT consider doing any business with M. Nath contractors.
We hired Mr. Nath to perform remodeling work in our house, with an agreement that we would pay him in three installments. Mr. Nath told us that the entire cost would be $12,000 and the work would be completed within the first two weeks of January 2018. We paid him the first installment of $4500 on December 28th. He worked on January 2nd and 3rd, removing three walls and installing a beam in lieu of a supporting wall. A few months later, we noticed that this support beam was beginning to bow because it had not been secured. Since the first week of January, Mr. Nath was not able to work and provided us with excuses related to health and family duties. We were patient with him, but as time progressed it became clear that he was not making a genuine effort to do the work.
In April, after much prodding from us, he finished the demolition stage and put in a day’s work sorting out some electrical wiring needed for the job. He left a huge mess for us to clean up. We met with him in April to discuss the work and he convinced us to pay the second installment even though he had not met the first milestone of having the walls and drywall up. This was a big mistake on our part because he took our money and stopped performing all work on the site. He did agree to have the work completed by June 1, 2018. He also sent an email agreeing to begin paying a penalty for each day that he runs past this deadline. This email was received on May 3rd of 2018. He has not performed any work and has ceased contact with us about the job since that time.
In mid-June, we sent Mr. Nath an email asking him to remove his equipment, and to return our money and keys, but he has not done so. In fact, he has not communicated with us at all. We contacted the local magistrate and a court date has been set in August, 2018.
Our experience with Mr. Nath as a contractor and remodeler has been horrible. He has acted in a duplicitous and unprofessional manner. What was supposed to be a two-week remodeling job has turned out to cost us $8000 and the use of our home for six months. Instead, he entered our house, destroyed two bedrooms and left debris, equipment and supplies throughout the rest of the home.
