Siddhartha Mathur - 2018 Sep 23

Sweet has defrauded me of $14K. He promised completion of my driveway along with patio within 3 days. It's been 3 months and neither of them is complete. The quality of the work done thus far is greatly lacking - concrete is patchy in the driveway, stain is messy, and the lamp posts are incomplete. His crew cut a sprinkler pipe in the process of doing the driveway and have done a very shoddy job of repair.
He has given us a big run around, and like a fool, not only have I trusted him all this while, but also felt sorry for his financial state since he kept telling me stories of how he was running tight on cash. As a result of his tales, I made a large portion of the payment before full completion. Serves me right for being overly trusting of humanity. Over the last 3 months, he's made all sorts of excuses and alibis for his tardiness, absence, lack of planning, and lack of responsibility.
In case you're interested in seeing how gullible I am, read on to learn about his excuses and the comedy (tragedy?) of errors.

On day 1, he did not show up because the company he rents demolition trucks from had double booked him.
Post-demolition, he didn't show up the next day to pour concrete because he fell sick.
Then he shows up with his crew and pours the concrete, but before he can complete stamping, the concrete dries out. So he has to cut out the halfway stamped concrete and promises to fix it the next day.
The next day, his crew felt like they'd worked too hard and didn't want to work. (seriously, this is how he runs his business, with no control over his crew? shouldn't this have been a wake up call for me?)
The next day, his crew was ready, but he couldn't get a concrete pumper.
Then he comes over, and messes up the color of the concrete. Now the stairs are colored in a different shade than the rest of the driveway.
The next day he comes to fix the stains, tells me he's running short of money and requests some advance. I feel sorry for the guy and pay him.
At this point, we're already 10 days into what he promised to be a 3 day project.
Now, he's started a different project with a tight deadline, and says he cannot come over for 2 weeks. He rudely says that he can't even come over to meet and discuss the schedule for remaining work.
For the next few days, he's stuck in the hospital with his diabetic mom. I feel sorry for him, and wish his mom the best.
Then, he's out again for 1 week doing a new project in Olympia that somehow has suddenly become higher priority than his existing projects.
For the next week, Sweet does not reply to my messages or calls. I think he's gone absconding and threaten to call the lawyers. He immediately replies saying that he's got family and financial pressures that have stressed him out, and he gave in to the stress. He says he'll be past these issues in a week, and will complete the work soon after. I trust him again.
He comes over after that week to scope out the remaining work. I give him a precise list of remaining things which he says he will surely complete.
The next day he messages me to say that the concrete guy does not have stain and won't for the next week. This is the kind of planning Sweet does - he wants to complete work, but hasn't ordered materials yet !!
For 2 weeks after that he gives me the run around saying the stain is not here.
Then when i request him to come by and finish everything other than the sealant, he starts getting aggressive and abusive over the phone. This was quite a shock after all the trust i've placed in him.
Afterwards, he apologizes for his language, and promises he'll come over the next day to complete everything.
The next day he tells me had unexpected family visit and will come the following day.
On the following day, he tells me that the family has not yet left, and will be the following weekend.
On the weekend, he doesn't show up because the concrete shop closed earlier than he expected.
So he promises Monday, and of course doesn't show up and reschedules for the following week.
The following week, he's out at a funeral, so can't show up.
And that is the latest in my saga.

So, overall, I'm not sure what to do other than contact my lawyers, BBB, and post reviews in different places in the hopes that others don't go through the same harrowing experience.

Sweet has been deceitful, irresponsible, and overall a cheat.
