Eva Wilson - 2020 Nov 11

Would leave a zero if possible. Hired to build the base of a second story deck. Started July 1st and never finished it. We had to finish ourselves in September because we had to get the flooring and rails up before it started snowing. They would show up for a day, then disappear for a week or more, never telling us when they were planning on coming back. Messages unreturned. He dug up and cut the electric line to my well and told me he was getting "his" electrician to fix it. After an electrician never showed, they "fixed" it themselves when we weren't home and then buried it so we couldn't inspect it and left the bent electrical conduit sticking out from the house. When they dug to place sonotubes they removed a bunch of rocks from under the ground, but didn't replace anything. Then they only put some of the dirt back, leaving a grade straight into the foundation of our house and deep, collapsing holes where water pooled around each sonotube they placed. We had to re-level everything ourselves and pay to bring in more D1 to fix the grade. When asked about this the owner said that fixing and leveling the dirt they dug up was not part of their job. So, they could create a disaster for us, but it wasn't their responsibility to clean it up in there minds. Second story stairs were balanced on one support post so that they rocked like you were on a boat when you walked up them. I told him that we were planning on window paning the flooring and we had to modify what they did in order to do so, because they didn't do it. They placed the stairs in the wrong place and then wanted me to pay to fix it. Last communication with the owner while he was working on it was mid-September, when he told me that he thought he could build a platform near the bottom of the stairs to fix the issue. Then he never came back to finish anything. He then contacted us on October, 30th after never finishing the deck and wants to get paid the remainder from our contract, which is decidedly vague - probably by design. They never got a permit and when we asked them about this the response was, "well you and your son took 3 caribou on 1 permit (not true), but what the hell does that have to do with the shotty, subpar work and unprofessional conduct exhibited. I can go on. The joists are supposed to be 12 inches on center, but they are from 10 to 15. When we mentioned this his response was " up to 16" is allowed for Trex." Laying the deck floor was a nightmare because we had to lay each board down and then mark it so it fell where it should on the joist. Each measurement was different, for each board on each row. He left screws sticking out all over that we had to go around and screw in, but "that wasn't structural." The entire process has been a nightmare: Our yard and driveway was torn up all summer and is still partly a mess. The deck frame is a testament of how not to do it, and Nick, the owner is the most unprofessional and inconsiderate person we have ever worked with. Now he is threatening to put a contractor's lien on our house for work he never completed. I will end with the fact that we found out a month and a half into our unfinished nightmare when we were finally told that Nick works on the slope 2 weeks on - 2 weeks off and that they also don't work when it rains. We just found out that they never permitted the job.Save yourself the grief, frustration, and time and money spent suing - avoid these clowns like the plague.
If you are considering them for a job, check out the "profiles" of the people who left them 5 star reviews. Most of them must have property all over the country, since three years ago when they were all made (and this business listing coincidentally) they left reviews for people all over the country - plumbing work done in Florida, a garage built in Pennsylvania, a new body from Yoga classes at a studio in California and so on. They are bogus and it is obvious. There real rating is only over one star because someone was generous enough to leave them two. Run, run, run as far from this company as possible!
